Core program

Personal safety skills

A practical one-day program for staff whose work may bring them into physical contact with an aggressor. Lawful, proportionate, defensible.

Duration1 day
FormatIn-person
LevelFrontline
CapacityUp to 14 learners

What it covers

The physical end of the de-escalation continuum: what to do when verbal tools have been exhausted and your safety, or a colleague’s, is at risk. Every technique we teach is lawful, proportionate, and defensible.

The emphasis throughout is on disengagement and creating space — not control or restraint. Where restraint is part of your role (clinical staff, transit officers), we teach the recognised techniques your governance framework already supports.

What learners leave with

  • Body positioning and stance that reduces risk without escalating the interaction
  • Lawful techniques to break a hold and create space to disengage
  • A clear understanding of where personal safety ends and a security or police response begins
  • Decision-making frameworks for the seconds before, during, and after a physical incident
  • A documented record of competency for your training register

How it’s delivered

In-person only — physical skills do not transfer through a screen. We bring matting, role-play training partners, and the protective equipment we use for safe practice. The day is heavy on practice and light on lecture.

Who it’s for

Staff in clinical care, mental health, transit, security, and front-of-house roles where physical aggression is a foreseeable risk. Often paired with the Frontline de-escalation program for full coverage.
